Innovative Veterinary First Aid Kit for Vulture Conservation - Distribution event in Moyar Village
Launching Innovative Veterinary First Aid Kit to Protect Vultures
Arulagam is actively campaigning against the use of drugs harmful to vultures, including Diclofenac, Ketoprofen, Flunixin, Aceclofenac, and Nimesulide. Our survey research shows that painkillers are commonly used to treat mastitis and sprains in livestock.
To prevent these harmful drugs from entering the vulture sanctuary, Arulagam has designed a veterinary first aid kit. (See details below on the kit)
On 25th September 2024, Arulagam launched its innovative initiative in Moyar village. Mr. S. Bharathidasan, Secretary of Arulagam chaired the event along with Dr. V. Palani, Veterinarian and Mr. Gokul representing YourFarm.
In his opening remarks, Mr. S. Bharathidasan emphasised that this pilot programme in Moyar village is the first of its kind to provide veterinary first aid kits. The programme's success and the community's needs will determine its expansion to other villages within the Vulture Safe Zone.
Dr V. Palani advocated the promotion of backyard poultry farming. This approach provides an alternative source of income, a protein supplement for the community, and helps deter carnivores' predation. He also cleared the doubts raised by the cattle owners.
Mr Gokul presented the preparation methods for the ethno-veterinary medicines provided by Your Farm.In addition to the first aid kits, 35 beneficiaries received fodder cuttings.
The event was organised by the Arulagam field staff, Ms. Revathi and Ms. Sundari.
